Savinelli: Riserva (920) (6mm)
Product Number: 002-033-47163
Like the "904 KS," the "920" is one of Savinelli's most striking and angular renditions of the bent Dublin. This piece hews closer to the classic English shape chart standard in its sinuous bend and curved transition, but the bowl continues the S-curve's momentum in its forward-urging posture. Full of dynamism, the bowl tapers dramatically into a defined heel, matching with the angle of shank for a well-balanced composition that highlights Savinelli's distinct approach to traditional shapes.
Savinelli considers numerous aspects when examining the briar quality of a pipe, including grain orientation, lack of flaws (such as sand pits), and how the grain aligns with the shape. How well a certain pipe meets these criteria determines its finish and tier within Savinelli's lineup, with the most estimable displays set aside for the Italian marque's more limited productions — like the Punto Oro and Giubileo d'Oro series. For the Riserva line, Savinelli has spent the past 10 years saving certain bowls from this superlative selection, commended specifically by their exemplary flame grain. Dressed in a simple, auburn stain, the Riserva line showcases some of the finest briar Savinelli has to offer in a traditional presentation that draws focus to the immaculate grain orientation, with Giancarlo Savinelli's signature emblazoned on the stem.-Truett Smith
