Savinelli: Riccio (321) (6mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-033-53570
Essentially a scaled-down version of their beloved "320" design, Savinelli's "321" Author maintains the form's charmingly plump curves and stout proportions, but alters the dimensions to make the full-bodied shape more compact and pocket-friendly. Shape-wise, the "321" is identical to the "320," but with a slightly smaller bowl and an abbreviated shank. It's an ideal choice for those who like the robustness of the Author but seek a design that's better suited for on-the-go needs.
The Savinelli family has long shared their love of the sea through their pipes, with series like the Onda and Oceano coming to mind in particular. Added to those ocean-inspired lines is the Riccio, meaning "sea urchin" in Italian, and presenting a crisply striated rustication overtop a virgin finish. While the texture and natural briar calls to mind the Cocco series, the Riccio orients its grooved streaks differently as they emanate from the side of the lower bowl for a slightly offset position that better resembles its namesake. Fitting further with the line's theme, this piece is fitted with a stem of proprietary acrylic — the sea urchin-purple and -orange tones contrasting against the stummel's natural hue, which will darken as this pipe is enjoyed over the years.- Jeffery Sitts
