Savinelli: Ghibli Rusticated (626) (6mm)
Product Number: 002-033-55955
While Savinelli features several bent Apples on their standard shape chart, this "626" is their signature, archetypal rendition. It's also the trimmest version offered by the Italian marque, presenting a leaner disposition compared to, say, the "636 KS" and "642" shapes and leaning more into the traditional English style. Defined by a slightly bulging bowl, stretched heel and transition, and lithely bent stem, this iconic "626" is a versatile piece of moderate size and natural in-hand feel — perfect for those interested in an Italian-made pipe but one of more restrained, classic proportions.
Savinelli's Ghibli series is named after the hot, dusty desert wind that originates in the Sahara and blows across the Mediterranean Sea during the spring and summer months — capable of producing powerful, hurricane force wind speeds. The Ghibli line presents one of the Italian marque's most evocative finishes, featuring a striated rustication pattern overtop unstained, natural briar. While the pairing calls to mind Savinelli's Riccio and Cocco lines, the Ghibli series orients its grooved streaks to emulate the shifting sand dunes of the desert landscape. Further accentuating the desert theme is the acrylic mouthpiece's sunny, yellow hue, accented with a mottled, marble-esque accent band. Both elements vibrantly contrast against the stummel's natural hue, which will gradually darken with time and use.-Truett Smith
