Savinelli: Riccio (128) (6mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-033-61869
Savinelli's "128" Billiard is one of the marque's larger interpretations of the shape chart standard, the tall bowl commanding much of the profile's visual weight — a signature approach within Italian pipemaking that's also a key aspect of Savinelli's immediately recognizable style. The bowl's prominence is further accentuated through the gradual taper of the arrow straight shank and stem combination. The "128" is notably longer and more muscular compared to the firm's "106" and "104" Billiards, while also being slightly stouter than their trim "107" design. This is an ideal choice for fans of classic shapes but desire a pipe with a bit more substance all around.
The Savinelli family has long shared their love of the sea through their pipes, with series like the Onda and Oceano coming to mind in particular. Added to those ocean-inspired lines is the Riccio, meaning "sea urchin" in Italian, and presenting a crisply striated rustication overtop a virgin finish. While the texture and natural briar calls to mind the Cocco series, the Riccio orients its grooved streaks differently as they emanate from the side of the lower bowl for a slightly offset position that better resembles its namesake. Fitting further with the line's theme, this piece is fitted with a stem of proprietary acrylic — the sea urchin-purple and -orange tones contrasting against the stummel's natural hue, which will darken as this pipe is enjoyed over the years.
