Savinelli: Pulcinella Rusticated Black (645 KS) (6mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-033-64754
Savinelli's "645 KS" is a wide, stout take on the bent Brandy, the bowl prioritizing breadth over height, yet still boasting a respectably deep chamber within. The bowl wears its waistline low before subtly tapering up toward the rim, while the transition offers ample room for the thumb to rest. Unlike the Italian marque's "628" bent Brandy, the "645 KS" is a low-slung take on the classic shape with the bowl more Apple-esque in its curvature, and it displays a greater degree of bend compared to the "144 KS." It's an ideal choice for pipe smokers who prefer robust, substantial designs that also remain balanced and lightweight enough to be clenched comfortably in the jaw.
Savinelli's Pulcinella series expands the theme of the Italian marque's Arlecchino release. Like the Arlecchino, the Pulcinella draws inspiration from the commedia dell'arte, an early form of professional theater originating in Italy around the 16th century. The character Pulcinella is often recognized by his hunched posture, portly belly, beak-like nose, and gangly legs, and his portrayal typically depicted him as a clever schemer who feigns ignorance or as an incompetent simpleton who simulates sophistication. His archetype has become a traditional staple across Europe, and his costume often presents an all-white ensemble with a dark mask that accentuates his crooked nose. Fitting with that motif, this Pulcinella pipe wears a jet-black rustication and features a custom-cast acrylic stem marked by a checkered, black-and-white pattern.
