Savinelli: Siena (121 KS) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-033-67455
With its wide chamber and firm, jutting heel, Savinelli's "121 KS" is a thoroughly Italian take on the bent Pot shape. The bold, muscular bowl garners much of the visual attention but is expertly balanced out by the saddle stem's graceful downward turn — softening the design's masculine profile while also allowing the shape to be more comfortably clenched. The chamber's thick, insulating walls provide plenty of substance between the smoker and the burning leaf inside and offer a substantial presence in hand. The "121 KS" is also notably similar to the Italian marque's other bent Pot design, the "122," with the primary difference between them being the breadth of their bowls as the "121 KS" here has been lent some additional width around its base.
Savinelli's Siena line, named for the city in Tuscany, is one of the marque's most traditionally inclined and reserved series, finishing stummels in a warm, mahogany stain and pairing them to jet-black acrylic mouthpieces. Fitting its namesake, the line's stain resembles the red brick of Siena's Piazza del Campo, the city's main square, which features the Torre del Mangia, the second tallest medieval tower in Italy. Unlike the majority of Savinelli pipes that are drilled to accommodate 6mm filters, the Siena is composed of pieces that accept 9mm balsa filters. Aesthetically, it's an elegantly understated presentation and is an ideal choice for pipe smokers who prefer 9mm filters or, simply, a wider airway.
