Savinelli: Trevi Rusticated (602) (6mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-033-69912
Trimmer and more lithe than is usual in typically robust Italian pipe design, Savinelli's "602" is a bent Billiard with more of a Danish flair, especially noticeable in the sweeping curves of the silhouette and slight taper of the bowl toward the rim. The proportions between bowl and shank, though, return us to bowl-centric Italian territory, contributing to a bold, sporty, and active character, as appropriate in a sports car as in an armchair.
While Savinelli's Roma and Roma Lucite lines pay homage to the city of Rome as a whole, the Italian marque's Trevi series commemorates a specific landmark within the capital: the Trevi Fountain. Designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762, the Trevi represents the largest Baroque fountain in Rome and is one of the most famous in the world, marking the junction of three roads — tre vie in Italian, thus leading to its name. For Savinelli's celebratory series, the Italian marque presents here a dark-stained, glossy rustication, accented with a flashy nickel ring emblazoned with the characteristic arches of the Acqua Vergine, an ancient Roman aqueduct for which the Trevi Fountain acted as a terminus.- Chuck Stanion
