Savinelli: Trevi Rusticated (114 KS) (6mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-033-70773
Savinelli boasts a rather robust shape chart, not to mean that all of their shapes are robust, but the diversity of shapes is grand. The Italian marque has an especially wide array of straight Billiard designs, all differing in their size and proportions. The "114 KS" is one of only two saddle-stemmed varieties, joining the "110," and it sits right in the middle of Savinelli's size spectrum: It's a touch larger than the "104" and "106" but exhibits a trimmer style than, say, the "101," more similar to the "111 KS." Lovers of English classics will appreciate the traditional shaping and relative proportions but with a slightly larger bowl to ensure a comforting in hand feel and plenty of chamber space.
While Savinelli's Roma and Roma Lucite lines pay homage to the city of Rome as a whole, the Italian marque's Trevi series commemorates a specific landmark within the capital: the Trevi Fountain. Designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762, the Trevi represents the largest Baroque fountain in Rome and is one of the most famous in the world, marking the junction of three roads — tre vie in Italian, thus leading to its name. For Savinelli's celebratory series, the Italian marque presents here a dark-stained, glossy rustication, accented with a flashy nickel ring emblazoned with the characteristic arches of the Acqua Vergine, an ancient Roman aqueduct for which the Trevi Fountain acted as a terminus.-Truett Smith
