Savinelli: La Corta Smooth (101 C) Tobacco Pipe

Savinelli's "101" Billiard is a muscular take on the shape chart standard — undeniably Italian in its execution, evidenced by the robust bowl and firm heel underneath. Such shaping cues call to mind the marque's "141 KS" Billiard, only here, the bowl of the "101" has a much stouter appearance due to the shank being considerably thicker, continuing the hearty precedent set by the bowl. This piece is also one of the shortest Billiards offered by the Italian firm, making it a substantial pipe that houses a good bit of chamber, while still being easily manageable and relatively compact. This "101 C" rendition, however, fits that stoutness and muscularity into an even more compact, Nosewarmer pipe, maintaining the same bowl size and chamber depth as the Italian marque's standard version but in a more pocket-friendly overall length.

An aptly named series, Savinelli's La Corta line — Italian for "short" — presents several of the marque's iconic shapes in abbreviated Nosewarmer dimensions. That said, only the length of these pipes have been altered; the chamber depths and muscular proportions remain the same as Savinelli's regular fare, creating convenient, travel-worthy smokers that don't sacrifice on chamber volume or in-hand substance. This particular example wears a rich, chestnut stain and smooth finish, and it's fitted with a trim brass accent ring and jet-black acrylic stem for traditional appeal.
