Savinelli: Leonardo Giochi di Luce Rusticated (6mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-033-81779
In 2007, Savinelli embarked on an annual series dedicated to the work and life of Italian polymath Leonardo da Vinci. The series produced nine unique shapes through 2015, each one inspired by one of da Vinci's notable contributions to the arts and sciences. Since then, the series has lain mostly dormant — with the only exception being in 2019, when Savinelli resurrected the line for the 500th anniversary of da Vinci's death — making these newly issued bent Dublins an enticing release for those who missed the line's initial or subsequent runs.
Dubbed the "Giochi di Luce," or "Play of Light," a reference to da Vinci's interest and studies pertaining to light representation in art, the series' bent Dublin possesses a tall, deep-chambered bowl that flares from its firm, slightly bulbous heel to its broad flat rim. A wide transition pairs the bowl to a sturdy shank and a demurely curved tapered stem, the latter of which provides a touch of curvature to the form and offsets the fore's hefty visual presence within the composition. Like the releases that preceded it, the Giochi di Luce is presented in one of two finishes: a smooth brown polish or a dark rustication. This particular iteration wears the series' crisp rustication and comes complete with a metallic accent depicting da Vinci's likeness.
