Savinelli: Porto Cervo Rusticated (104) (6mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-033-86517
Savinelli's "104" shape designation corresponds to a Billiard design that showcases the Italian pipe making tradition's approach to classic English and French shapes. The basic Billiard form is maintained in the rigid, upright bowl; however, the proportions have been slightly altered as the shank and stem are a touch more slender and the bowl a tad taller. It makes for a dramatic visual effect and draws more attention to the bowl, while still preserving the shape's streamlined look in profile. The "104" also presents a trimmer alternative to the firm's more robustly proportioned Billiards, such as the "101" and "141 KS," while not sacrificing anything in terms of chamber depth.
A town bathed in opulence, Porto Cervo is located on the northern coast of the isle of Sardinia, just to the west of Italy. With a population of under 500, the seaside resort is marked by lavish accommodations and luxury yachts, the Hotel Cala di Volpe in particular known for being featured in the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. The village's reputation for class and elegance inspired this line from Savinelli, dressing this piece in a glossy, dark-stained rustication, accented by trim brass accoutrements and smooth-polished briar at the rim and shank end.
