Scottie Piersel: Partially Sandblasted Pencil Shank Saucer
Product Number: 002-786-0075
Scottie Piersel has here inflated the visual weight of the Saucer shape by pairing it with one of her remarkable pencil shanks, the contrast between the two emphasizing the visual weight of the bowl. That bowl is smooth above the crisp ridgeline, and sandblasted beneath, along with the shank. The bowl's rim is inclined toward the tobacco chamber and reveals good birdseye grain, while the lower portion offers well-oriented growth rings circumnavigating the bowl. A wisp of a tapered stem emerges from the tiny shank in variegated blue, black and purple, the shank and stem combination almost lost in comparison to the canted bowl.
Scottie began her pipemaking career with a pipe she made for her husband, the need to create took over, and she tediously pursued the necessary engineering and skills for executing the slender shanks she is so well known for. If you often find yourself looking for something unique, something with excellent smoking properties but a departure from the usual shapes, Scottie Piersel delivers.- Chuck Stanion
