Scottie Piersel: Sandblasted Morta Prince Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-786-0079
While this Prince isn't one of Scottie Piersel's signature, pencil-shanked numbers, its streamlined form and modernist color palette are still easily recognized as the American carver's work. We haven't received many morta pipes from Scottie before, making this a welcome addition to her portfolio, and it's the first one we've seen that's been fashioned in a more standard overall length. The profile is a spot take on the classic English shape, the elegantly bent stretch of stem and shank curling into a plump, squat, Tomato-like bowl up front. Comfortable in hand thanks to the morta's uniquely sandblasted texture yet easily clenched thanks to the form's light weight, it's a versatile pipe that also sits sturdily on a desktop. It's yet another example of how Piersel is able to take classic shapes and make them all her own — in this case through the use of alternate medium and a striking color combination, pairing the jet-black morta with a vulcanite stem of red-tinged clay hues, streaked with tones of inky black.
