Scottie Piersel: Relief Contrast Pencil Shank Paneled Dublin with Ivorite Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-786-0104
Looking like it may have been snatched from the teeth of some wizard in a bygone mythological world of gnomes and dragons, this Dublin from Scottie Piersel offers a particularly rustic appearance. That aesthetic is accentuated by her Relief Contrast technique of finishing, which smooths the peaks of the sandblast and renders them in their light tones, contrasting dramatically with the dark hues of the deeper undulations of grain. Despite the gentle curvature apparent in profile, the bowl is squared with soft corners, and the smooth rim is generously beveled and maintains a light stain that highlights the birdseye that dominates that element. The nearly seven inches of length is highlighted by the proportional contrast of Scottie's famous pencil-shank construction. The shank emerges from the bowl in what appears to be an impossibly small diameter, but because it is reinforced with stainless steel tubing, this is a tough and sturdy pipe, elevated by a creamy ivorite accent and a honey mustard-hued vulcanite stem.- Chuck Stanion
