Scottie Piersel: Partially Sandblasted Magnum Pencil Shank Dublin with Ivorite Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-786-0118
Though Scottie Piersel has a background in industrial engineering, sculpting, and architecture — as well as a life-long habit of smoking pipes — she came to the craft through a desire to make a pipe for her husband as a gift. She bought a pipe-making kit, and as her interest grew, she began to research and learn from great North American carvers. Her work is marked by sleek, minimalist designs that emphasize functionality without sacrificing aesthetic beauty. This straight Dublin is easily recognizable as her work, pairing a broad, muscular bowl to a dramatically long pencil shank for an eye-catching, streamlined profile.
Though slender and lightweight, the shank-and-stem arrangement remains sturdy in hand as it juts from the low-slung transition, featuring stainless steel tubing for added durability. The stout, broad bowl possesses the form's characteristic flared rim and gradual taper to the firm, rounded heel. The stummel wears a low-profile, ruby-tinged sandblast that coaxes out rippling growth rings across the flanks of the bowl, providing plenty of unique texture for the fingers to explore. The chamfered rim is left smooth for a note of contrast, while also aiding in the loading of a preferred blend. An Ivorite accent marks the junction between the shank and the tapered vulcanite mouthpiece, offering a warm, crisp note to the pipe's profile. Elegant, refined, and all together charming, this piece is sure to make a welcome addition to any collector's rotation.--Davin Hylton
