Scottie Piersel: Sandblasted Author Tobacco Pipe

While American pipe maker Scottie Piersel is best known for her incredibly precise pencil-shanked pipes, she does make more muscular designs as well: This classic Author shape is one we have received many times from her, and is always a welcome sight. Detailed craftsmanship is consistent in all of her pipes, of course, regardless of shape, and this beauty represents her skill well, with a plump bowl and a soft, neatly balanced S-curve to its shank and stem.

A low-profile sandblast discretely accentuates tight stacks of ring grain climbing the bowl, while the rim is smooth and chamfered to assist in tobacco loading. Colorful stems are another of Scottie's favored design features, a penchant represented here by a vibrant lime-and-yellow colored mouthpiece of brindled vulcanite with outstanding craftsmanship around the lip button. For anyone who is a fan of Piersel's portfolio who likes a more substantial feel in hand, this one is a real treasure.
