Scottie Piersel: Relief Contrast Pencil Shank Dublin Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-786-0128
Pipes from Scottie Piersel never fail to amaze, with the American carver's design aspirations always realized: To craft quality pieces imbued with clean lines, a minimalist aesthetic, and durable, comfortable stems, all of which equate to high-performing, precisely engineered and comfortable smoking instruments.
The bowl of this hearty, straight Dublin boasts a broadly flaring rim and very subtle taper to a rounded base. A bit Pot-like in its shaping, the rounded, muscular bowl garners the visual weight here, as it's poised at the end of one of the American carver's iconic, lengthy and streamlined pencil shanks. Though they appear to be delicate, these signature shanks are not, as they're lined with stainless-steel tubes, adding strength and durability in addition to a light weight. The proportions between shank and bowl are dramatized, and Scottie has dressed this pipe in one of her earthy, Relief Contrast finishes, achieved by sanding down the peaks of the sandblasted surface. As a result, the piece effectively wears dual tones amid a rugged presentation. Tightly knit stacks of growth rings are displayed across the bowl, while the smooth, complementing chestnut-stained rim showcases beautiful whorls of birdseye. For an eye-catching finale, Scottie has adorned this briar with a colorful fishtail-style stem of jade and black brindled vulcanite. This is another compelling composition from the Kansas City carver and likely won't last long on our site.
