Scottie Piersel: Relief Contrast Pot Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-786-0162

Scottie Piersel carved her first pipe from a kit as a Father's Day present to her husband. She immediately got hooked and has honed her craft since then become one of America's foremost pipe artisans. This Pot is a more diminutive piece for Piersel, who's known for her long pencil-shanked pipes, but still displays the hallmarks of her unique style. A squat bowl rests on a broad heel at the fore of a sleek pencil shank fitted with a tapered vulcanite stem rendered in swirling hues of blue and violet. The stummel is dressed in Piersel's distinctive Relief Contrast finish, achieved by staining the briar, sandblasting it, sanding down the excavated portions of wood, and finally staining the stummel in another lighter hue. This labor-intensive process produces an elegantly contrasting pipe, pairing the rugged aesthetic of a sandblast with a smoother tactile experience. This piece wears said finish in a combination of black and chestnut hues, with touches of plateau along the smooth rim that tie the look together.
