Scottie Piersel's pipes are impressive for a number of reasons, not the least of which are her remarkable pencil shanks. Svelte and ultra-sleek, they're actually more slender than most pencils and far more durable, thanks to stainless steel tubes inserted into them. The carver wouldn't see it any other way; durability and functionality are top priorities to the American artisan. This Belge is a more abbreviated pencil shank piece, featuring a pert, thick-walled bowl with a charmingly chamfered rim at rest on a subtly lifted heel. Out back, a cheeked transition emphasizes the bowl before giving way the signature pencil shank that stretches out to meet an Ivorite accent and abbreviated vulcanite stem in swirling blue and burgundy hues. Dressed in a rich walnut stain, the stummel boasts fine flame grain around the bowl, with a touch of birdseye at the rim.
