Given the late Giancarlo Guidi's love for art, it should be little surprise that he was familiar with Pacioli's De Divina Proportione, and as fate would have it, this special Ser Jacopo series, inspired by the idea of applying the Golden Ratio to pipe design, would be one of the Pesaro school founder's last great projects.
The series, unsurprisingly, focuses on neoclassical designs; classic shapes rendered in fuller-bowled Italian proportions. As generous, and in this case, shapely, as the bowls may be (and despite their overall pretty statuesque scale) the Divina Proportione designs are anything but bowl-heavy. They, are indeed, divine in aesthetic balance. And, unsurprisingly, they are rendered in some really choice briar, here producing loads of lush and lovely flame grain along the full length of the flanks, and across the front of the bowl as well - all beautifully finished in a warm, charmingly reserved auburn.
