Ser Jacopo: **Picta Picasso Smooth Bent Dublin with Silver (L1) (C) (10) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-2937
Ser Jacopo's "10" bent Dublin is an homage to the pipe seen in Pablo Picasso's 1904 work titled Autoritattro dedicato a Max Jacob (Self-Portrait Dedicated to Max Jacob), a sketch dedicated to French poet and painter Max Jacob, who was at one point Picasso's roommate in Paris. This design from the Pesaro workshop is somewhat reserved compared to some of the other wilder and more abstract pieces we've seen from the Picta series, possibly because the pipe it's based on came before Picasso's Cubism periods that often incorporated elements from Surrealism. Shape-wise, it's a tall, deep-chambered Dublin rendition that demonstrates Ser Jacopo's penchant for robust proportions and placing the majority of the visual weight on the bowl. The stummel's burgundy-tinged stain ably highlights a wealth of handsome grain while a bright, silver band accents the shank end and leads to the gracefully downturned saddle stem.
