Ser Jacopo: Insanus Spongia Sandblasted Freehand with Silver (S2) (D) (6) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-3204
Ser Jacopo's Insanus series features shapes that do well to remind the viewer of the meaning of its rather telling Latin appellation. Here we have a functional straight bowled Cavalier, long shank carved in an offset bend that made me think that I broke the pipe before I opened its box, forgetting to which line this piece belonged. The split area in the middle of the shank is carved at such an extreme separated angle that the idea of drilling a draft hole into this makes me very anxious, but somehow Ser Jacopo did it and did it well. The stummel is finished in a natural tanblast that reveals handsome growth rings about the bowl and shank, a subtle accoutrement to a pipe that has never heard that phrase before.
