Ser Jacopo: Spongia Rusticated Bent Dublin (R2) (A) (Maxima)

Product Number: 002-171-3213

Ser Jacopo's Maxima line oftentimes offers pipes that are incredibly large, and even those pipes with a singular stamp can be gargantuan hunks of briar that dwarf the Italian workshop's other offerings. This bent Dublin, however, is a much more reserved piece from this line, with a single stamp that, appropriately, denotes its inflated size, though even amongst its brethren it is significantly lighter. There are few occasions where the word lithe is an apt description of a Maxima pipe, and this is one of those occasions, as, for the majority of the profile of this piece, it is possessed of a decidedly trim sinuousness. The stem arcs gracefully from button to shank, flaring gently all the way, and, until reaching the transition, the shank itself is quite slender comparatively, before the gradual growth accelerates. Once it does, the bowl erupts quite readily, rising proudly out of the heel, peaking at a domed rim marked by an arched ridgeline, the entire silhouette a fluid S-curve with the soul of a Calabash. The stummel, outside of the rim and nomenclature panel, is carved with a craggy rustication and finished with a natural stain, ensuring that its surface will darken gradually with the natural oils of the hand and of the tobacco of your choice.
