Ser Jacopo: Smooth Bent Dublin (L1) (C) (Maxima, Maxima) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-3289
Bearing two "Maxima" stamps, this bent Dublin from Ser Jacopo is a hearty piece of Italian craftsmanship. The bowl presents an interesting confluence of firm and soft lines, with the heel and bowl carrying crisp lines from the angularity of the paneled shank, while the overall form of the pipe speaks to a fluidity and gradual building of momentum that exudes a soft gentleness. The bowl's panels and ridges give it some decided firmness, compressing the sides of the form a bit as they run to the rim. The high-kicking shank meets the saddle stem as it arcs gently for a relaxed smoking posture, a woodsy accent at the stem's base blurring the lines between the stummel and stem. Besides providing plenty of palm-filling substance, this piece's size also results in a bowl depth of over two inches, ensuring long, luxurious smoking sessions. Dressed in a warm walnut stain, the sweeping flame grain cascades down the stummel in smoky streaks, while a crown of plateau adorns the rim, adding both tactile and visual intrigue.--Davin Hylton
