Ser Jacopo: Sororibus Two Pipe Set (R2) Tobacco Pipe

This two pipe set from Ser Jacopo is a departure from the robust, playful shaping that often marks the Pesaro style, opting instead for a refined, elegant aesthetic that still boasts some bowl-centric proportions. One of the few "Sororibus" sets we've received, translating to "Sisters" in Latin, and the Italian workshop set out to craft a straight Billiard and its sister bent Billiard that would aesthetically harmonize without sacrificing the unique character that defines both shapes. They are related, but distinctive, and they showcase Ser Jacopo's exacting and measured craft, challenging themselves to do something truly Herculean: make something that is genuinely classic yet readily recognizable as the work of Ser Jacopo.

The bent Billiard in this set features a tall, upright bowl with a sweeping heel that carries momentum through the flared shank and into the gently arcing stem of jet-black acrylic. The shank and stem are quite lithe compared to the bowl, and the balance struck by the composition is most impressive. It's a lively and lightweight piece that strikes a graceful, lengthy profile. The straight Billiard has a similar bowl shape, but paired to an arrow-straight shank-and-stem combination that extends from the base of the bowl, anchoring most of the visual weight upfront. The size of the bowl is likewise tempered by the length of the shank and stem, harmonizing with its sister and giving the piece a dapper, elegant look. This piece also possesses a flattened panel that runs across the underside of the shank and heel, enabling it to sit sturdily. Both pipes are finished in one of Ser Jacopo's craggy rustications, their warm tan stains offering a handsome and vibrant palette, the rims and shank ends of both left smooth for textural contrast.
