Ser Jacopo: Smooth Bent Egg (L1) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-3637
We've seen a few pieces from Ser Jacopo like this bent Egg, ones which present with a full-bodied bowl, though are paired with extremely slender stretches of shank and stem. In this case, the bowl is that of an extremely plump Egg, rounded on all sides and fitting quite nicely in hand, its slow taper to the rim starting at a mid-set waistline and its hearty build sat atop a strikingly round heel. The transition is quite wide, owing this to the aforementioned taper to the rim, and leaves plenty of room to drape a digit, with the slim shank ebbing out of it starting a consistent taper that runs to the button. There's a slight downturn at the stem which lends a demure poise to this piece, though it's clear that this is a work from the Italian workshop, their Pesaro Style reflected in the dramatically disparate proportions. Dressing the briar here is a warm walnut stain that's polished to a handsome gloss, revealing handsome grain, the right flank of the bowl showing flickering flame grain and the left whorls of birdseye.
