Ser Jacopo: Calumet Smooth Bent Dublin with Silver (L1) (D) (3) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-3749
A bold, less commonly seen design, this Calumet bent Dublin by Ser Jacopo is loosely based on pipes crafted by Native Americans for their personal use or trade. Calumet is an ambiguous term given the size of the Americas and hundreds of different indigenous cultures within; the name itself was coined by French fur traders in the 17th century. Shape-wise, this piece features a tall, flaring bowl with distinctive beadlines and a rim crowned in plateau. The shank extends past the fore, similar to a Cavalier but forgoes the removable foot for a protruding, angular spur. From the transition, the shank gradually tapers as does the stem, turning down at the bit. Striking a fetching profile, it's dressed in a smooth auburn stain, highlighting tight-knit licks of flame grain on all flanks. Further commending this piece is an ornately designed, generous silver adornment that shows off the artisans' metalworking skills, with the jet-black acrylic mouthpiece lending contrast.
