Ser Jacopo: Smooth Acorn with Silver (L2) (B) (Maxima) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-3753
Acorn renditions from Ser Jacopo are rather uncommon in general, with the Italian workshop producing relatively few of them, though finding the shape as a "Maxima" graded pipe is extremely rare. In fact, we haven't seen a "Maxima" graded Acorn since 2015, making this particular piece quite a tempting one to enthusiasts of Danish designs with a Pesaro twist. As a "Maxima" pipe, the proportions of this piece have been exaggerated a bit and especially through the bowl, presenting with walls that rise to over two and a half inches tall and flare out robustly from a rounded heel. This flare smoothly becomes a taper as it reaches the high-set waistline, and the area just below the rim is marked with a single beadline, the entire build providing a wealth of supple curves to fill out the contours of the hand. The shank and stem take on a very slight aquiline arc as they push out of the wide transition, and the stem itself is downturned at the bit for an elegant bit of posturing. This entire piece is possessed of a charming muscularity throughout, and this lends it ample space to display a warm, natural stain that reveals wrapping flame grain around the bowl, its hues contrasted well by a band of silver at the junction.
