Ser Jacopo: 40th Anniversary Historica Rusticated Calabash with Silver Cap (R1) (36) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-3820
Founded in 1982 by Giancarlo Guidi, Ser Jacopo has built a reputation on crafting high-quality briars that are renowned for their robust proportions and playful shaping cues. The Italian marque's style has since defined the Pesaro style of pipe making, each of their pipes imbued with a sense of character and reflecting the whimsical creativity that went into crafting them. Their Historica series seeks to modernize some of their older, more novel shapes, refining the designs and accenting them with flashy silver work. For their 40th anniversary, Ser Jacopo has fashioned a series of Historica Calabashes in variety of their most iconic finishes, with each piece adorned with a sterling silver cap.
Dressed in a craggy rusticated finish for maximum tactile enjoyment, save for the shank end left smooth and stained a honey-blonde color for contrast, this Calabash features a dramatic taper from the rim to the jutting, Pickaxe-like heel. The heel extends well past the transition and lends a sense of angularity to the design, while the shank tapers swiftly at its midpoint before broadening to a wide, undulating face. The bulbous saddle stem tops off the design, its jet-black color perfectly complementing the earth tones of most of the stummel. The shinning, sterling silver cap hangs over the bowl, mimicking the appearance and shape of traditional meerschaum caps that adorn Calabashes. Here, the sterling silver adds a dose of flash to the otherwise reserved palette of the pipe, commending a design that represents 40 years of craftsmanship.--Davin Hylton
