Ser Jacopo: Sandblasted Zulu (S2) (B) (Maxima Maxima) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-3823
Renditions of the Zulu aren't very common within the realm of modern pipe making, and even less so from Italian workshop Ser Jacopo, making this double-Maxima iteration quite a rarity. Coming in at nearly nine inches long, this is a shockingly large piece, its rather svelte length of shank and stem supporting a bowl that's more than three inches tall, the capacious chamber within surrounded by thick, insulating walls. These walls flare outward and upward from a firm heel, pinching slightly in the middle before expanding into a broad rim that dips at both the fore and aft, the entire composition extremely gestural and strikingly dynamic, especially given the bowl's dramatic forward lean. Dressed in a crisp sandblast and stained a light chestnut, this piece showcases some handsome grain throughout, with ripples of growth rings descending the bowl.-John McElheny
