Ser Jacopo: Picta Van Gogh Sandblasted Poker with Silver (S1) (C) (8) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-3969
Ser Jacopo was founded in the 1980s by legendary pipe maker Giancarlo Guidi. The workshop cultivated their signature Pesaro style, which delights in dramatic flourishes and whimsical stylings, even more so than the already playful Italian tradition. Unfortunately, Guidi passed away in 2012, but Ser Jacopo carries on his legacy. One of Guidi's greatest passions, other than pipe making, was procuring fine art. Ser Jacopo's Picta series pays homage to iconic art pieces, and this particular pipe was inspired by Vincent van Gogh's Self-Portrait with Straw Hat and Pipe (1887).
This Poker by Ser Jacopo is a stable Sitter thanks to the flattened bottom of the bowl, which is dressed in a scaly black sandblast and features a carved beadline just below the slightly domed rim. A silver accent on the fore of the pipe makes it seem as though the shank-and-stem arrangement drives through the bowl, giving this pipe a unique profile. Additionally, the left flank of the shank is dressed in a smooth finish due to the nomenclature, offering a colorful accent to this pipes dark and distinguished dress.
