Ser Jacopo: Picta Van Gogh Sandblasted Cutty with Silver (S2) (C) (2) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-3970
Ser Jacopo was founded in the 1980s by legendary pipe maker Giancarlo Guidi. The workshop cultivated their signature Pesaro style, which delights in dramatic flourishes and whimsical stylings, even more so than the already playful Italian tradition. Unfortunately, Guidi passed away in 2012, but Ser Jacopo carries on his legacy. One of Guidi's greatest passions, other than pipe making, was procuring fine art. Ser Jacopo's Picta series pays homage to iconic art pieces, and this particular pipe was inspired by Vincent van Gogh's painting Young Farmer's Head with Pipe (1884).
This Cutty by Ser Jacopo features the shape's defining feature, a spur below the bowl. In this case, the heel serves a greater compositional purpose than a functional one, as it accentuates the plump bowl and saucer-like rim, making the bowl look like a flower in bloom. Out back, the shank and stem make a Hawkbill-esque arc and display a thin silver accent ring. The stummel is dressed in an auburn-hued sandblast that creates a craggy texture for one's fingers to explore.
