Ser Jacopo: Picta Miro Smooth Bent Poker with Silver (L1) (C) (4) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-171-4520
Founded in 1982 by Giancarlo Guidi, Ser Jacopo has built a reputation for crafting high-quality briars that are renowned for their robust proportions and playful shaping cues. The Italian atelier's style has since defined the Pesaro style of pipe making, each of their pipes imbued with a sense of character and reflecting the whimsical creativity that went into crafting them. Taking inspiration from the works of famous artists such as René Magritte, Pablo Picasso, and Joan Miro, the Picta line from Italian Workshop Ser Jacopo comprises several collections of artistically informed pipes. This "04" is based on the pipe depicted in Joan Miró's painting The Hunter (Catalan Landscape), which the Spanish artist completed in 1924. Initially, the painting seems incredibly abstract, but upon closer examination, the landscape depicts an assortment of human and animal forms, with the hunter visible along the left side. A triangular head sits atop his stick figure body while a freshly lit pipe protrudes from his mustache, holding a smoking gun in one hand and a freshly hunted rabbit in the other. This homage from the Italian workshop does an excellent job of capturing the original pipe's flowing gesture, though it adds a good bit of functionality by flattening the heel into a sure-sitting surface for easy resting. A pair of beadlines grace the upper bowl, just underneath the rim while a silver band accents the shank end for further visual flair, nicely contrasting the deep, rich, smooth finish that dresses the stummel.
