Silver Gray: Sandblasted Oversized Eskimo Egg Tobacco Pipe

While this Eskimo Egg is "oversized" compared to Silver Gray's other works, I would not call it particularly large; based on the oeuvres of other carvers and marques, especially those who display a penchant for the Italian school, this piece would probably be considered a fairly standard-sized fare. That being said, it does fill the palm nicely and sport a deep, though slender, chamber. As is conventional for Gray, she has paired two seemingly disparate features — a supple, spherical bowl and a rigid diamond shank — so expertly and seamlessly that they don't seem at odds with one another, in spite of their quite contrasting visual aesthetics, and feel incredibly comfortable together in hand. Tying the piece together is its deep, ruby-brown stain and conservative sandblast that displays plenty of vertical striations intersecting with some deep growth rings.
