Lasse Skovgaard: Smooth Acorn

Product Number: 002-327-0578

Though Lasse Skovgaard runs the gamut when it comes to Acorn renditions, from sweeping, long-shanked iterations to more compact bulbs, the general shape has become one of the Danish carver's signatures over the years. Compared to the other two versions in today's update, this one is considerably different, posing a rather short form overall and petite persona throughout. Full of Danish charm, the profile is defined by the consistent under curve that tightens toward the rim, forming the shape's characteristically domed, high-set waistline. Lasse has tucked and pinched the transition formed by the tapered shank to echo the bowl's taper and accentuate the plump form. The crisp lines of the defined transition, then, balance with the hard line at the shank end, the face of which Skovgaard has domed to continue the piece's rounded, organically supple motif. It's a beautiful blend of sleek crispness and affable plumpness, all showcased in a stunning array of flame grain and a vivid contrast stain. Lasse has really come into his own as a carver, having learned well from his years in the W.O. Larsen factory as well as sharing a workshop with Teddy Knudsen. A lovely, compact pipe, this is my personal favorite out of Lasse's offerings today.
