Lasse Skovgaard: Partially Sandblasted Calabash Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-327-0589
It's not uncommon to come across briar renditions of the Calabash shape, originally fashioned from specially-grown gourds in times past. Here, Lasse Skovgaard has carefully played with some of the proportions of the shape, particularly the broad beveled rim. While the remainder of the stummel has been neatly sandblasted to display neat, concentric growth rings, this extended rim has been left smooth, with a great deal of tightly-packed birdseye on proud display. There's a delightful touch of organic asymmetry to the rim itself, as if nodding to the gourd pipes of old, while the deep turn and broad transition creates a tight, sweeping S-curve in profile. It's a form that matches what we've come to expect from Lasse, with a close attention to detail, and a natural fluidity imbued throughout.
