Lasse Skovgaard: Smooth Bent Brandy
Product Number: 002-327-0637
Lasse Skovgaard has a pedigree that includes the DNA of his father, heralded carver Benni Jørgensen, as well as the training he received at the W.Ø. Larsen workshop and in the workshop of Teddy Knudsen. This lightly stained bent Brandy provides a contrast that illuminates the active vertical grain climbing the sides of the shank and the bowl, with speckled birdseye at the rim as well as the upper and lower sections of the shank. That shank expands in a classic Danish-design taper to the smooth, gently rounded shank face. The heel lifts, providing a complementary curve for the rear bowl and upper shank, while the walls of the bowl taper at the rim for an organic dynamism in hand. Cheeking at the transition is prominent, yet simultaneously understated, not too much, not too little. In fact, restraint seems to be the thematic unifier for this piece, each element perfectly demonstrating Lasse's own distinctive interpretation of Danish shaping cues.- Chuck Stanion
