Lasse Skovgaard: Smooth Bent Dublin
Product Number: 002-327-0640
This elegant, demi-Churchwarden bent Dublin from Lasse Skovgaard is a long, slender piece with a wide transition and also wears a dynamic contrast stain that reveals excellent grain throughout. While the rim is crowned in plateau, a design element that's typically repeated at the end of the shank on most other pipes, this piece contrasts the plateau with a smooth, domed shank end, followed by a jet-black and willowy, tapered stem, leaving the stummel to accept the majority of the visual weight. While taller than it is long, the transition and shank stretch the composition horizontally for more length and a comfortable grip. As with most of Lasse's pipes, the use of curves is essential to the overall design. The curves of the bowl, transition and shank all working together for dramatic appeal. Particularly interesting is the end-of-shank expansion working in similar but modified concert with the tapering Dublin bowl. This combination of Danish Fancy and structured precision provide an endlessly engrossing form to be cherished for generations.- Chuck Stanion
