Lasse Skovgaard: Sandblasted Bent Apple
Product Number: 002-327-0643
While this piece from Lasse Skovgaard features some remarkable elements, I'm most taken by the shaping of the bowl, which maintains its ball-like Apple-ness with tight cheeking along the sides of the transition and a horizontal narrowing of the shank as it approaches the bowl. That narrowing is inverted when viewed in profile, expanding as it approaches the bowl. What emerges visually is a well-rounded bowl that preserves the integrity of the bowl shape even on the shank side. Wonderful grain populates the stummel, rising in undulating regularity around the bowl. The stem and shank combination provide a slender and elongated form in a gentle upward bend followed by the same bend downward. Beautifully symmetrical, and a fairly large pipe overall, it would find a respected place in any collection.- Chuck Stanion
