Lasse Skovgaard: Smooth Bent Dublin
Product Number: 002-327-0669
Lasse Skovgaard, the son of renowned pipe maker Benni Jorgensen, started his pipe making career by crafting the popular W.Ø. Larsen horn tampers when he was 18. Learning his initial pipe making skills from his father and from Teddy Knudsen, with whom he shared a workshop for a time, Skovgaard struck out on his own to create some of the most graceful and elegant pipes seen, like this beautiful bent Dublin.
This particular piece highlights Lasse's exactness in terms of line work and maximizing the briar's grain orientation. The curling shank leads the eye to the bowl which gradually flares from the sweeping heel up toward the wide, domed rim. Said rim is separated from the rest of the bowl by a ridgeline, allowing the hypnotic birdseye that graces its surface to stand out from the flame grain patterns that engulfs the bowl's flanks. The stem's expansion disc mirrors the shaping of the flaring shank face before continuing its graceful downturn. A Danish classic rendered by an artisan as skilled and talented as Lasse Skovgaard is hard to resist.- Jeffery Sitts
