Lasse Skovgaard: Smooth Acorn Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-327-0674

Lasse Skovgaard began his pipe-making career with W.Ø. Larsen, joining the esteemed workshop when he was just 18 years old. Lasse would quickly join the likes of Teddy Knudsen and Jess Chonowitsch as one of the carvers to fashion the workshop's illustrious Straight Grain pipes. Skovgaard later moved on to carve his own pipes and even shared a workshop with Knudsen, a family friend of Skovgaard and his father, Benni Jorgensen. As a pipe maker, Lasse leans into classic Danish design, from bold, daring Freehands to more reserved forms. The Acorn is one of his most prolific shapes, and one such example is presented here.

Much like Lasse's other Acorn renditions, this piece is highly gestural, rife with supple curves, and it flows beautifully. In profile, the rim exhibits a touch of asymmetry with its wavy orientation and dotted texture of plateau. Said plateau leads down to the gorgeous grain Skovgaard has coaxed out of this block, the flanks streaked with flame grain that follows the bowl's contours. The transition sweeps into the bowl, emphasizing its plumpness and maintaining its curvaceous disposition. The shank continues in a gentle upward arc, before meeting the softly downturned mouthpiece.
