Lasse Skovgaard: Sandblasted Bent Egg Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-327-0706
Lasse Skovgaard is a talented, second-generation Danish carver who comes by his skills from hard work and dedication, not to mention likely gifted genetics. Introduced to pipe making by his dad, Benni Jørgensen, Lasse also learned from Teddy Knudsen and worked at the venerated W.Ø. Larsen workshop in Denmark. He set up his own shop in 2004 and has made a name for himself since.
The artisan boasts a diversified portfolio of classics and Freehands, with this bent Egg informed by a skillfully rendered amalgamation of the two styles. The plump, softly rounded and tapered bowl displays a forward cant supported by its sloping rim and lifting, paneled heel, the lines of which continue through the triangular-shaped and gestural shank. A sinuous S-curve characterizes the shank-and-stem arrangement, the fluid momentum with its downturned saddle stem a continuation of the heel's progression. The stummel is dressed in one of the carver's dark, low-profile sandblasts, showing off pronounced, tightly stacked ring grain on all flanks, while a smooth band of briar at the shank end lends a handsome accent.
