Lasse Skovgaard: Smooth Pear Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-327-0710

We have only received a few Pears from Lasse Skovgaard, and this is the first with a straight shank and stem. Skovgaard is a talented second-generation pipe maker, the son of Danish carver Benni Jørgensen, and got his own start in pipe making at the age of 16. He apprenticed in the storied W.Ø. Larsen workshop at the age of 18, working alongside the likes of Teddy Knudsen, and has since produced his own line of artisan pipes hewing closely to the Danish tradition. This example trades the sinuous S-curve of Lasse' previous renditions of the shape for a broad oval shank and stem supporting a neatly perched, high-waisted Pear bowl, for an artistic design with an abundance of Danish softness.

Despite the bowl's relatively narrow lower region, the precisely rendered transition shows delightful cheeking, and the rich auburn contrast stain and smooth finish do well to commend the briar's beauty. Lasse has carefully hand-cut a lithe saddle stem from vulcanite, with attention to detail commending the shaping all around. This is a pocket-friendly beauty, and a bespoke rendering of a less-often seen shape, with every line, curve, and detail elevating its stature.
