Lasse Skovgaard: Smooth Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-327-0756
Danish pipe design is often characterized by flowing lines, soft curves, and a certain elegance. Artisan carvers and workshops from Denmark have long curated this style over the decades, beginning most notably with Sixten Ivarsson and continuing through others like Jess Chonowitsch, Teddy Knudsen, Kent Rasmussen, Lars and Nanna Ivarsson, and many others. A number of these artisans also worked for various Danish workshops, W.Ø. Larsen in particular, which featured prestigious Straight Grain pipes carved by individual artisans.
Lasse Skovgaard began his pipe making career with Larsen, and eventually became one of these artisans for the workshop before embarking on his solo pipe-making career. Having received instruction from both his father, Benni Jørgensen, and family friend Teddy Knudsen, along with his time at W.Ø. Larsen, Lasse is a talented and experienced carver whose work exudes Danish design cues and quality construction all around. Here, Skovgaard presents a sleek bent Dublin. The profile is marked by a sinuous gesture through the stem and shank, the transition curling lithely backward into an upturned shank, with a broad-rimmed bowl blooming at the fore. Such a design is perfect for choice grain orientation, with excellent flame grain encircling the bowl and shank, while swirling birdseye crowns the domed rim. -Truett Smith
