Lasse Skovgaard: Smooth Acorn with Ivorite Tobacco Pipe

The son of pipe carver Benni Jørgenson, Lasse Skovgaard is an accomplished artisan, proficient in the shaping style of his native Denmark. Beginning in his father's studio, Skovgaard went on to work in the esteemed W.Ø. Larsen workshop, and now works independently, creating fine pipes that have proven popular among discerning smokers for decades.

This Acorn is a fine example of Skovgaard's style, defined by flowing organic lines and voluptuous proportions. The bowl features an undulating, domed rim that emerges from supple, curvaceous walls that taper down to a soft heel. Out back, a defined transition gives way to an oval shank. A single ridgeline runs from the rim, through the transition, and up the shank, creating texture, as well as lending a sense of organicism to the ensemble. Said shank flares at its junction to a comfortably bent vulcanite saddle stem, the base of which is rendered from milky Ivorite. Dressed in a rich auburn finish, the stummel boasts excellent flame grain around the bowl, with dense birdseye at the rim and heel.
