Lasse Skovgaard: Smooth Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-327-0831
As the son of Benni Jørgensen, Lasse Skovgaard could be said to have pipe making in his blood, but he isn't just a case of inherited talent. At the age of 16, Skovgaard began working at the esteemed W.Ø. Larsen workshop, refining his talent over the years with the help of his father and the great Teddy Knudsen. Now, he's one of Denmark's premier artisans, producing pipes that prioritize supple curves, gorgeous finishes, and superior engineering.
This bent Dublin is a handsome showcase of Skovgaard's talents, being a modestly embellished take on the shape-chart classic that reflects its maker's penchant for supple curves and defined lines. Up front, a tall, full-bodied bowl stands atop a firm heel and grows thick, insulating walls that flare to a broad, flat rim. Said rim comes to a sharp point at its aft and marks the start of a crisp ridgeline that flows down the back of the bowl and into the transition. The rim's rearward protrusion draws the eye to the shank, which, though gracefully poised, possesses a subtle angularity, its entire build reminiscent of a Reuleaux triangle. A half saddle stem continues the shank's geometry, offering a lopsided base that flicks upward and follows the shank's implied trajectory. Dressed in a warm, vibrant smooth finish, the stummel here offers a well of attractive grain, with tight strands of flame grain radiating across the briar's surface.
