Lasse Skovgaard: Partially Sandblasted Mushroom Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-327-0855
Despite being the son of the iconic pipe artisan, Benni Jørgensen, it wasn't until Lasse Skovgaard started working in the W.Ø. Larsen workshop that he began his journey with artisanal pipes. Inspired by Teddy Knudsen, Skovgaard eventually entered the Chicagoland International Pipe & Tobacciana Show where he sold his first batch of pipes stamped under his own name. This Mushroom is a great example of Skovgaard's keen attention to detail and shaping cues. Truly Danish in design, this piece is filled with organicism and impressive line work, with a profile that is satisfying both in hand and between the teeth. Following the sweeping silhouette, the walls of the bowl rise from a lifted heel and flare toward a dramatically domed rim. The overhanging rim is informed by a crisp ridgeline that helps create the Mushroom silhouette at the fore. Nestled within the bowl is a capacious tobacco chamber, almost two inches in depth, providing ample room for a favored blend. The transition lends the perfect space to wrap the thumb as it gives way to a flaring shank that mimics the bowl's outline, helping provide balance out back. A lengthy tapered stem cut from black vulcanite protrudes from the shank's face, completing the aft's bend toward the bit. The stummel is dressed in a craggy sandblasted finish that showcases impressive growth rings, save for the rim, which is left smooth to highlight lovely patches of birdseye.
