Whether you're looking to begin your own pipe smoking journey, an inexpensive way to build up a rotation, or searching for a comprehensive package to introduce someone to pipe smoking, Highway Nine starter kits contain everything needed to get started. In the box you'll find a traditionally shaped briar, a Czech pipe tool, a roll of regular BJ Long pipe cleaners, and a leather combo pipe bag with zippered compartments to hold each item as well as a pouch for tobacco.

The inside of the pipe shank was loaded with liquid dye. Used multiple pipe cleaners soaked in everclear and still could not clean it out. Ended soaking the entire shank in everclear and was finally able to remove the liquid dye. That can't be normal but customer service says it is.

Right on the money

The tobacco pouch is excellent. I've been using it for a while now and the only draw back is that I still have to carry my pipe cleaners in my eyeglasses pocket. The fold top tobacco pocket dose not let my tobacco spill in my pocket and keeps the tobacco fresh enough. The accessory pocket is large enough for two pipe tools,a guillotine style cigar cutter, and my zippo pipe lighter. And of course the longs pipe cleaners are soft and absorbent. The pipe is clearly made of a mid quality briar the grain is pretty and even has a little birds eye on the bowl. However, the soft carnauba dose run if you overheat it and gets lather dye on your hand. I could live with that but the finish will go matte . The staining stopped shortly after the burn in period. You can always repollish it later. Might be a little beyond a beginner though. Surely worth the money however.i mean to give this four stars....Read More

Hey, if this is your first pipe, i suggest running at least 10 pipe cleaners that have been dipped about half an inch in rum into the stem and shank. This will help remove any unwanted flavors in the pipe. i also lightly sanded inside the bowl (very high grit over 200+) this left no off putting taste....Read More

The case is excellent, pipe slides nicely into the bottom pocket, small zipper pocket works good for pipe cleaners and a lighter, and I put a couple zip-locks of my favorite baccer in the main pouch!

A Beginner's Mistake

Maybe I'm smoking it wrong, but the $20 MM hardwood (says briar, not sure) pipe smokes better than this one. It's actually worse than a $7 MM cob.
It's got a large bowl, feels and weighs just right in the hand, and it doesn't get too hot, so it's not without its pros. The cons though.
It gets very, very wet and the first 10 bowls or so you get the red coating on the interior seeping all over the pipe cleaner (and probably inside your mouth too). Smells (and tastes) slightly chemical as a result, but I could very well be imagining that.
If I could go back in time, I'd pick up the tool, the cleaners, the bag, and a pipe (NOT THIS PIPE) all separately. In fact, I'm considering to stop smoking it altogether once I'm done with the forever-ghosting CB Royal/1-Q I can't seem to ever finish.
Still, a nice gesture on the guys here to provide the kit. We all learn from our mistakes, right?...Read More

I will freely admit that I had my doubts: a pipe, plus a pipe tool, cleaners, and a pouch seemed too good to be true, given the asking price. It is not: the pipe is of good quality and well worth the cost, even if it were being sold by itself. When you add in the other items, this kit would be a bargain at twice the price. Fair warning given: I have recently returned to pipe smoking after a twenty-year hiatus. There may be experienced smokers who could point out the flaws in the pipe provided in the kit. For myself, I have not seen any, but I am only smoking inexpensive pipes right now. With all of that having been said, I think this kit is an outstanding deal....Read More
