Suhr: Smooth Billiard Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-821-0027

Johannes Rasmussen, the artisan behind Suhr pipes, is the grandson of Poul Rasmussen and Anne Julie and continues his familial tradition of pipe making. Johannes also works closely with Tom Eltang on his Sara Eltang line of pipes and has learned a great deal from the legendary carver. Rasmussen's style hews closely to traditional Danish shapes and stylistic elements, personified here in this piece. It's an exceptional addition to the Danish carver's portfolio and is a beautiful, classically inclined design.

This Billiard is rife with traditional Danish design cues as evidenced by the smooth line work, cheeking near the transition, and the bowl's curvaceous shaping, with some additional plumpness lent to its low-set waistline before ever-so-subtly tapering toward the softly inflated rim above. The bowl garners much of the visual focus though the shank is still respectably robust, and is paired to a sleek saddle stem. Said bowl certainly deserves all that attention as the birdseye here is absolutely stunning, brought out wonderfully by one of Rasmussen's vivid contrast stains. It's free of any adorning accents, simply letting the grain and superb shaping speak for themselves. If you're a collector of artisan renditions of shape chart standards, this Suhr pipe is more than worthy of consideration.
