Suhr: Rusticated Rhodesian with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-821-0031

This style of Rhodesian is well-represented within Johannes Rasmussen's portfolio and has quickly become somewhat of a signature rendition from the Danish artisan. Rasmussen crafts pipes under the Suhr name, which hearkens back to a pipe repair shop and manufacturer in Copenhagen that employed Johannes' grandfather, Poul. Johannes' Danish roots, creativity, and personal style is well-demonstrated in pieces like this Rhodesian, presenting a classic design in fresh, exciting ways. That said, the bowl's shaping remains fairly traditional, marked by a rounded base and maintaining the form's archetypal beadlines above which the bowl subtly tapers toward the rim. The bowl exhibits a hint of forward cant in profile and is finished in a dark, crisp rustication, with the rim and the trim band between the beadlines left smooth to contrast. Additional contrast is supplied by the boxwood accent that adorns the stem base, its pale hue starkly contrasting the rest of the composition's dark color palette.
